Yamaha has been a pioneer in "full-vision" mounters with recognition systems that employ visual recognition of all parts, introducing the mounter industry's first laser recognition system. By using this in conjunction with a high-accuracy CCD camera visual recognition system, Yamaha was able to introduce the revolutionary surface mounter YVL80 which achieved both high-speed mounting and a high part-recognition capability. This was followed by the introduction of the YVL88, a model change with further improved functions and performance that helped Yamaha consolidate its own area of dominance in the industry with the highest accuracy and adaptability functions in the middle-speed, multi-purpose segment of the market.

Main features

Adoption of a new-design high-speed servo system with modified CPU for increased processing speed and servo motors with increased capacity, and increasing axis speed, particularly in acceleration and deceleration, through improvements in the performance of the custom LSI motor controller, etc., have combined to help shorten cycle time in actual production by more than 10%.

By increasing the number of CCD cameras that can be used for part recognition to three and having them function in conjunction with the laser recognition function, this model is capable of mounting parts ranging from super-small 1005 chips and 0.3mm pitch QFP(*1), BGA(*2) and CSP(*3) parts to extra long connectors up to 100mm in length.

As the lighting system for reading the fiducial marks(*4) on the parts to be mounted, this model adopts a "white beam system(*5)" that lights the parts from three directions for more consistent part recognition that makes possible greater positioning accuracy on the board. This system also makes it possible to handle ceramic circuit boards and flexible boards(*6) for which fiducial mark recognition is more difficult.

Yamaha's exclusive non-stop feeding system makes it possible to replenish the parts supply not only of tape parts(*7) but also of tray parts(*8) without stopping the machine, thus improving work efficiency.

An improvement in the reflective light system makes it possible to check the BGA and CSP balls to identify defective parts.

All options, nozzles, feeder operating methods have been standardized with those on the existing Yamaha models for easy integration into the production line.

This tray supply device featuring fixed upper and lower magazines was redesigned on the same principle as the front/rear feeder plate system so that when the parts run out in the trays arranged in the magazine on one side operation switches to the magazine on the other side. Replenishment of parts can then conducted while parts are being supplied from the second magazine. This feeder can hold up to 100 kinds of tray and simultaneously supply up to three types of components to a mounter.

Labtam is pleased to announce the installation and commissioning of it new Saki BF-series inspection system.

Called the Bf-Voyager this equipment offers high throughput, high resolution inspection of surface mount placement and soldering. The system is capable of inspecting the largest of circuit boards (or panels of boards). It provides total inspections including inspection of solder printing condition so important in the effective loading of BGA/CSP devises.

Labtam is continually looking at ways to improve the quality of it process and this equipment is capable of adding significantly to our quality inspection processes which ultimately reduces the opportunity for field failures.

The system is cost effective high speed system with a line scanning mechanism. It brilliantly illuminates boards and inspects with the highest efficiency and features full coaxial incident illumination allowing the operator to identify and fix faults quickly and easily.

To Martin Cole (imRAC P/L a division of Cole Innovation & Design P/L) for winning the Engineering Excellence Award for Emerging Technologies for his design and development of the next generation fire prevention technology – MONITAIR.

The MONITAIR system, manufactured at LABTAM, is the third generation of aspirated smoke-monitoring technology, setting a new bechmark in performance by uniquely discriminating between dust and smoke with a high level of sensitivity that provides very early warning and minimises false alarms.
