Labtam began assembling circuit boards for its own use in 1974. These boards were used in high end electro-spectrometers designed by the company in these early years. It soon grew to included the manufacture of x-terminals also designed and sold on a world wide basis by the company. Manufacturing of products for other companies began in the late 70’s and has grown ever since and today the company only manufactures products for 3rd parties although it continues to design products. Beginning in early 1994, Labtam embarked on a three stage multi million dollar re-equipment program including a complete revamping of the PCB assembly operations. The first stage removed the use of CFC based chemicals in the PCB cleaning process from the manufacturing operation. This was replaced by in line aqueous cleaning equipment . The company moved into surface mount manufacturing with the advent of its first surface mount line and also upgraded its wave soldering process. In 2005 the decision was made to move into lead free manufacturing to meet international demand and a major re-equipment and expansion program began in 2006 and continued into 2007. The company has now moved to improve its client offerings to include RoHS compliant manufacturing services. New equipment has been added to improve quality and reliability in the manufacturing process. This includes the addition of a new 10 stage ERSA Hotflow oven within the surface mount line and additional inspection stations. In the through hole section of the factory a new wave soldering machine has been commissioned and two new selective soldering machines have been added. The new Soho wave soldering machine improves generally our wave soldering results whilst allowing the company to offer lead free wave soldering of circuit boards. The selective soldering machines offer lead free or leaded soldering whilst improving soldering repeatability and often eliminating the need for an expensive masking process. Additionally 20 new individual soldering stations have been added to meet the needs of the more demanding and heat intensive lead free soldering process. In all circuit board manufacturing inspection and qualification of the finished process is an important tool in ensuring quality is maintained and improved. The latest in optical inspection equipment has now been added to the Labtam line further improving the quality of our process and the products which result from it. The greatest advantage of automation of the inspection process lies in a stable fabrication quality on a real time basis. The Saki Voyager BF series inspection system is the system chosen by Labtam after an exhaustive process to meet our optical inspection needs. This equipment allows us to inspect all surface mount boards including printing condition inspections (particularly important with BGA’s) and post flow inspections of even the largest panels. Labtam has always had a quality first ideology and this continues. Today the company offers the very highest in quality manufacturing services at affordable prices. On time deliveries with outstanding quality means our clients retain us year on year to meet their manufacturing demands. The company is committed to a continual improvement in all processes and grows with our partners to meet the needs of an ever more demanding world market. |
